The final judging for the “Shining! 65th Japan Record Awards” (sponsored by the Japan Composers Association) was held on the 30th at the New National Theater in Hatsudai, Tokyo, and “Que Sera Sera” (alternatively spelled as “Keserasera”) by the rock band “Mrs. GREEN APPLE” won the highly coveted grand prix award. In addition, the group won Excellent Work Award (Songs of the Year).

Mrs. GREEN APPLE consists of members Ohmori Motoki, Wakai Hikoto and Fujisawa Ryoka and have had two strong years with songs such as “Dance Hall” and “Que Sera Sera”.

They have taken the music world by storm, being selected as the most listened to artist in Japan this year on major subscription (unlimited listening) services such as Spotify and won their first crown. The band also won “Best Artist” as the GQ Japan Men of the Year Awards and also “Video of the Year”, “Artist of the Year”, “Best Visual Effects” and “Best Alternative Video” at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan.

This is the seventh time in a row that a rock band has won the grand prize, following last year’s “SEKAI NO OWARI.” “Que Sera Sera,” which won the grand prize this time, was released in April of this year and has surpassed 200 million streams, the fastest pace ever, exceeding 100 million streams, which is said to be the standard for a subscription hit.

The music video on YouTube has surpassed 28 million views.
