“Tekken 8” exceeds 2 million units shipped worldwide within a month of release

BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo) announced the release of the home video game software “Tekken 8”, the latest installment of the “Tekken” series, back on Friday, January 26, 2024.

BANDAI NAMCO announced that the cumulative worldwide shipments (*1) of “1 million units worldwide exceeded 1 million units on the first day of release, and 2 million units shipped in one month.

“Tekken 8” will continue to expand its user base through continuous updates and e-sports development, as well as expand its fan community both online and offline through developments that go beyond the game business, such as music business and licensing out business. The company said they will move forward with full-fledged measures to boost the excitement.

The Tekken series and fan community are becoming more and more popular

In an upcoming update for Tekken 8, BANDAI NAMCO will be opening a large-scale online in-game store called TEKKEN SHOP, which will provide various in-game items such as reprint costumes for playable characters and character skins for avatars.  They will be opening a new location in the visual lobby “TEKKEN FIGHT LOUNGE”.

“TEKKEN SHOP” and “TEKKEN FIGHT LOUNGE” are also planning to collaborate with various IPs (intellectual properties such as characters) and brands and provide collaboration items, allowing users to enjoy communication with each other in the game.

In addition, as a measure to expand the fan community offline, “TEKKEN World Tour 2024” will begin on April 13th (Saturday). The TEKKEN World Tour, which has been held continuously since 2017, is a tournament held by fighting game communities around the world where players from all over the world compete for ranking points to determine the world’s strongest player of the year. It is the most prestigious tournament circuit in the e-sports scene of the Tekken series. In conjunction with this initiative, the company will take advantage of the 30th anniversary of the series to develop a wide range of businesses beyond the game business, including licensing and music businesses.
