Shoji Kawamori Expo to celebrate 40 years of his career, will be held at Tokyo Dome City’s Gallery AaMo on May 31-June 23, 2019

Kawamori Shoji is no doubt a legend in the animation industry, with his work on “Macross”, “Aquarion”, to name a few, and with his 40th anniversary coming up, a special event titled Shoji Kawamori EXPO to celebrate his illustrious career will be held at Tokyo Dome City Gallery AaMO from May 31st through June 23, 2019.

The exhibition will feature the work of Kawamori as a director, scriptwriter, artist, mecha designs and more.

Over a hundred design drawings and pictures by Kawamori will be featured including the context, idea notes and more will be featured.

Also, Kawamori’s view of the world will be expressed in a new original creative video.

Goods featuring the various works of Kawamori will be sold, including limited sale items.

Tickets go on sale on March 23, 2019.  Special tickets will be sold at Tokyo Big Sight at Anime Japan 2019 on March 23rd through the 24th.  This is a limited-time sale only.

The tickets will be sold at the Anime Japan 2019 SANKYO Satellite Booth (East 2 Hall/Booth # A21).  You must have admission to Anime Japan 2019 to enter this section.

I want to produce “something” that no one has seen.

From an early age, thrust at that impulse, I have continued my traveling creation that has yet been unexplored so far .

From Original drawings and rough design born in the process of 40 years, prototypes of transformed TOY, project document, scenario, picture story, interview photos and creative memos. And while watching the mountain of materials, I feel that my creative activities are backed up by so many staff that I can not count all of them, and that my support for the warm ongoing support of the fans, has given me a new feeling.

Therefore, in this memorial exhibition, I wanted to meet the process of creation, traveling with myself and with the many people who supported me in the 40 years. As the motif of the Osaka World Expo, it will be called “Kawamori Shoji EXPO”.

Please come and experience this creation, the process of trial and error and the festival of various world views.
