Is the color “Red” really an unlucky color for idols?

For those who are just new to Japanese entertainment, you may notice that there is a lot of color coordination that goes with idol groups.

With the announcement of Shibutani Subaru leaving Kanjani∞, people are posting on social media that there are many talent who represent the color red that have left their music group.

Sure, Akanishi Jin was  of the color “red” and Yamashita Tomohisa of NEWS are a color red but really, one shouldn’t see the color red as some conspiracy.

After all, Ariyasu Momoka of Momoiro Clover Z sported the color “Green”.

While there is no way the color “red” is unlucky for an idol member, let’s take a look at Rina-chan’s list.

Debunk time!

What about Maju of Little Glee Monster?    Let us look at a photo we took of Maju when she was in the group, we don’t recall her wearing red right?

OK, well she had red headphones.

What about Ito Chiaki of AAA?  Let’s see…

Well, she wears different colors….so, that doesn’t count right?

Well, what about former Morning Musume member Sayashi Riho?

OK, that’s just a coincidence.

Hmm… What about Wada Ayaka of Angerme (formerly S/mileage)…

Just another coincidence…But what about Kobushi Factory’s Ozawa Rena?

OK,  we purposely looked for photos of a member with the color red.  Granted, a few of them have worn red many times.

The fan theories on social media made by a few people, while an interesting topic, it is mere coincidence or wishful thinking.

But sometimes coincidences can be quite interesting. Such as America’s “Madden Curse”, which any NFL athlete who appears on a cover of the video game will have a disastrous year or will be injured.

But the color “red” is a beautiful color!

Ask Mochizuki Yuuta, he would agree!
