It was announced that AKB48/Nogizaka46 producer Akimoto Yasushi will be collaborating with MNET producers for “PRODUCE 101” for a project known as “PRODUCE 48”.
According to news reports, 48 Korea trainees (who have appeared on other TV programs) and 48 Japanese trainees (part of AKB48G) will participate in the show and Korean residents will be voting for Japanese trainees and Japanese trainees will vote for Korean trainees. Six finalists from each country will form a 12-member girl group.
As for contestants, Koreaboo has posted information on their website on Korean and also Japanese contestants.
