Imai Eriko’s website revised and also posts a heartfelt blog about her son

Imai Eriko updated her website but it’s her recent blog post that was quite heartfelt.

Imai Eriko has been heavily involved in promoting awareness for hearing disability since her son born with a hearing loss, even a documentary was filmed back in 2011 for “Nankurunaisaa” titled “Nakurunaisaa~Imai Eriko ga Musuko to Arunda 6 Nen” about the challenges of being a single mother of a young son (who was six-years-old at the time) with a hearing disability, communicating via sign language but also the love and affection she has for her son, which she pretty much has given her all.

Imai is a member of the music group SPEED who dominated the mid-to-late ’90s with consecutive #1 hits.  In 2016, Imai became a politician, winning the Japanese House of Councillors election under the Liberal Democratic Party.

As March 3rd was “Mimi no Hi” (Ear Day), Imai posted on her blog about how her son, Raimu, is now 13-years-old and in junior high.

And although he is older and not enjoying kisses and hugs as much today (which she laughs about), she writes how much she loves her son.  And echoing the same love and passion for him as she did in social media since her son was born.

“Mimi no Hi” was created to promote awareness of hearing loss and speech impairment by the Japan Otalaryngology Society back in 1959.

March 3rd was selected as it is the birthday of Alexander Graham Bell, who was the inventor of the telephone but also dedicated his life on deaf education and was a major proponent for oralism in the United States.   In fact, in the 1870’s, Bell taught speech to deaf students using a universal alphabet invented by his father called “Visible Speech” and opened a school in 1872 to train teachers for the deaf.
