[Update] Produce48 – Episode 7 – Position Evaluations Continue – NMB48’s Murase Sae takes #1 in the Dance Rankings, Han Chowon takes #1 for Vocal/Rap – Both earn 100,000 points

Episode 7 will be airing in South Korea tonight (in the USA, it’s 7:10 a.m. PST).  Please watch here:

Mnet’s “Produce48” episode 7 is airing tomorrow and they have posted a teaser for the upcoming episode with English subtitles.

The show originally began with 48 trainees from South Korea (from CNC Entertainment, YGKPLUS, Cube Entertainment, FNC Entertainment, MNH Entertainment, RBW Entertainment, Million Market, Banana Culture Entertainment, Well Made Yedang, HOW Entertainment, Urban Works, YueHwa Entertainment, A Team, MMO Entertainment, MND17, FENT, Woollim Entertainment, Music Works, 8D Creative, WM Entertainment, Block Berry Creative, STARSHIP, STONE Music, PLEDIS and ZB Label) and 48 trainees from Japan (AKB48G: AKB48, AKB48 Team 8, SKE48, NMB48, HKT48 and NGT48),

Now the trainees are down to 57 (Matsui Jurina of SKE48 had to bow out due to poor physical condition) trainees.

“Produce48” features a collaboration between Mnet’s “Produce 101” of South Korea (a show which features hopeful singers/dancers who want to become members of a pop group) and members of Japanese idol groups of AKB48G .

Episode 6 (which was last week) began the Position Evaluations in which team members will now compete against each other and the audience will determine their rank.  Episode 7 will air the second half but also show the current ranking of the Top 57, which will lead to the next elimination round for Episode 8.

Who will be the top ranked trainee that will receive 100,000 bonus votes for being #1 in Vocals and Dance?  We’ll find out in a few…

Today’s episode will feature the remainder of the vocal and dance competitions and this time individuals in each team will be competing with each other.

The show is kicking off with the GIRLS’ GENERATION “Into the New World” performance, Goto Moe, Huh Yunjin, Yabuki Nako, Kim Chaewon and Chiba Erii are competing.

We learn that Nako was given the opportunity to be the lead vocals but she wanted Huh Yunjin to showcase her vocal ability.  Great choice!

But I was surprised by the final vote.  I felt Heo Yunjin deserved the #1 spot, Yabuki Nako at #2, Kim Chaewon at #3.  My #4 and #5 was exact.  I felt Goto would have shine in the dance, but I understand if she wanted to show she can do vocals as well.

UPDATE AFTER WATCHING IT AGAIN: After watching it again, I still feel Heo Yunjin should be #1 but now I would upgrade Kim Chaewon at #2 and downgrade Yabuki Nako to #3.  I concentrated on Kim Chaewon’s vocals and I was quite impressed this time around.

The results:

This was posted a few hours ago by Mnet but it showcases the complete Little Mix “Touch’ dance performance which features Kim Minju, Shitao Miu, Honda Hitomi, Bae Eunyoung and Lee Yujeong.

Bae Eunyoung, the leader of the team was no doubt instrumental in getting the team inspired to practice hard.  Kim Minju tends to have a lack of confidence in herself and Bae Eunyoung’s leadership was able to get her prepared.

This was a tough one, I actually zeroed in on Shitao Miu and Kim Minju’s performance the most.  I actually placed Honda Hitomi at #3.  I’m content at #4 and #5.  But you can tell that after Kim Minju won, she took Bae Eunyoung’s lower score hard and felt she didn’t deserve #1.  I will say when it comes to the dance, presentation in front of a live audience really stands out and Kim Minju and Shitao Miu stood out.

The results are as follows:

The other dance competition features trainees in the Fitz and the Tantrums “Hand Clap”competition between Murase Sae, Motomura Aoi, Muto Tomu, Kim Choyeon, Kojima Mako and Kim Minseo.

It was interesting to see a conflict of opinion between team leader Kim Choyeon and team center Motomura Aoi, as Kim wanted to go for sexy and Motomura wanted to go more of a happy style.  There was no doubt problems with communication and the two had to work together and figure things out.  And they worked their buts off and the pulled off one of the better dance performances.

As for Aoi, the center getting sixth.  I’m not sure if it’s the darker colors that made her not stand out but while everyone wore lighter colors, hers was the darkest and she seemed to disappear from the background.  But it was no doubt heartbreaking for Aoi.  On the other hand, Murase brought out the sexy, while Kim Choyeon was no doubt strong and on point as usual.

My vote had Kim Choyeon at 1st and Murase at 2nd.  But while I expected Kim Choyeon to be great, Murase Sae was a wildcard that made me watch her solo earlier in the week and felt like revising #1 and #2.  Kojima was my #3, but #4-#6 was a free for all and I’m good with those selections.

The results:

For vocal competition, Takeuchi Miyu, Jang Gyuri, Miyazaki Miho and Iwatate Saho are competing in the BTS “The Truth Untold” performance.

I have to say that I was surprised.  I placed Takeuchi as first, but she looked a bit somber and sad compared to the others.  Miyazaki Miho (Myao) was who I had as my first, because we got to see her shine with this performance and I had Jang Gyuri as second.

I liked Jang Gyuri’s bounce back after the “Peekaboo” performance and I’m glad to see her going strong.  You can tell that mentally, she was devastated and hurt from that last performance.  It was hard on her that she was in tears, because she had no confidence due to that “Peekaboo” performance but leader Takeuchi Miyu and the team stood by her and that was cool to see.  Takeuchi really gave words of encouragement about the pressure of being center but putting that away and just giving your best.

But Takeuchi’s ranking was a surprise.  While I applaud Jang Gyuri’s improvement, there was something that Takeuchi was not connecting with the audience and not sure if it was the frilly outfit or what.   But I do admit, Myao stole the show with her surprise vocals, because she was not as visual and flew under the radar.  But this time, Myao and Jang Gyuri rocked it!

Actually, part of the surprise of others who were in the top 12 who didn’t do well in episode 6/7.  How will this affect them before the elimination round?  I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

The Results:

The next dance competition features trainees in the Jax Jones “Instruction” competition which features Lee Haeun, Son Eunchae, Nakanishi Chiyori, Kim Suyun, Wang Ke and Kim Hyunah.

This group featured a group on the lower-rank of the P48 spectrum but they also had the most laughs and had fun with it!  They needed to really give it their all to stand out from the crowd and this dance performance was their chance!

I also loved how Nakanishi Chiyori lightened up the mood with the group.

What I didn’t like was seeing the outfits that this team was getting compared to the other groups.  But they had a solid performance!

I had Kim Hyuna and Son Eunchae at #1 and #2, but to see Eunchae at #1, I can actually see why.  But I felt #3-6 was a free for all and we saw Lee Haeun, who is typically solid on dance fall to 6th and Wang Ke at 5th.  This was no doubt a tough one.

The Results:

For the BLACKPINK “DDU-DU DDU-DU” performance, Park Seoyoung, Miyawaki Sakura, Kim Doah, Murakawa Bibian, Takahashi Juri and Cho Kahyeon are competing.

I have to admit that I was a bit surprised with this one.  I had 1st and third place switched and thought Miyawaki would be first.  Park Seoyoung was what I expected, but at the same time, I know at fourth, she was lucky as she forgot the rap portion.

But I give Miyawaki Sakura… her “bad girl” impression won over her fans!

The Results:

After the position evaluations, it was time to see the placement for Vocal/Rap and Dance:

For the dance, it would be NMB48 Shiroma Miru or Murase Sae at #1…

With episode 7 now completed and the next elimination match set for episode 8, I think that a lot of risks were taken by several of the top 12 members and the results were not as favorable.

Both Lee Kaeun (#1, third place for her team in episode 6), Ahn Yujin (#2, was second place in her team in episode 6), and 13-year-old Jang Wongyoung (#3, received second place for her team in episode 6) were in competing Avengers dance team but voters didn’t see them dominating as dancers.  Wang Yireon (#8, received fourth place). Choi Yena (#9, received fourth place).

Kwon Eunbi (#5, received #1 in her dance for episode 6) shined, while #4 Miyawaki Sakura took a risk to show a different side but she was also at #3.

Shiroma Miru (#16), Takahashi Juri (#18) and Murase Sae (#40) will get a boost, as with Park Haeyoon (#43) but it will remain to be seen if all four will break the top 30.

It’s quite interesting to see how everyone seemed solid after episode 5, but episode 6 and 7 now changes the overall landscape and who makes that Top 30, we’ll see…

Here is a teaser for episode 8:
