Komugi, the reformed delinquent who can’t do a lick of housework, recruited her kid brother-in-law in an effort to hide her secret failings as she works to better herself before the rest of her husband’s family realizes the truth. Komugi is a sore loser and can swear like a sailor, but the more time they spend together, Dai learns that she is also sincere and courageous, and one day he realizes that he might just be falling for her—the one girl he absolutely can’t have!

As if that wasn’t enough for a high school junior to deal with, now Dai’s classmate, Yoshino (who has a bit of a crush on him), starts getting curious about Komugi’s past…

For those not familiar with our reviews, we refer to names in the Japanese style, so family names first, first name second

What are these feelings that Dai is feeling towards his older brother’s wife?  Is he falling for Komugi?  What happens when his perverted friend Yamai wants to come to his home and senses Dai’s feelings towards Komugi? And what happens when Dai’s classmate, Morinaga Yoshino, falls head over heels for him and knows he likes Komugi.

What is “The Delinquent Housewife!” about?

From manga artist Nemu Yoko comes “Futsutsuka Na Yome Desuga!” (to be released in the US as “The Delinquent Housewife!”), a manga series that will be released in North America courtesy of Vertical Comics.

The series revolves around a woman named Komugi who is marrying a man named Tohru and comes to stay with his family.

While she is welcomed by Tohru’s mother, his grandfather (who tends to be a bit perverted) and his younger brother Dai, his younger sister Yukari has no interest in welcoming Komugi to the family.

While the family prepares for Tohru and Komugi’s marriage, Tohru announces that he has to go on a business trip next week and Komugi will stay with his family and he’ll be back in a week.

While Komugi leaves at night, making the family think that she is working, one day Dai goes to the convenience store and sees Komugi. And she sees him slapping a guy and the guy gabbing her by her shirt. Dai comes to her rescue but then she tells him it’s not what he was thinking.

Dai learns that Komugi is actually a yankee and has no true skills to be a wife. She doesn’t know how to cook, do laundry, and she is depressed that Tohru’s family may find her useless.

But as Dai agrees to keep Komugi’s secret, his sister Yukari will do whatever she can to find out the truth or anything bad in order to prevent her brother from marrying Komugi.

In volume 2, there are numerous stories that are entertaining.

Here is a summary of each chapter:

Chapter 9 – Squeaky Hammer Time, Please! – Dai wants to play the hammer game with Komugi.

Chapter 10 – The Secrets of Others – What happens when Komugi’s gangster jacket is found by Dai’s mother?

Chapter 11 – Someone I want to Defeat – What happens when Komugi desperately wants to defeat Dai in a video game?

Chapter 12 – Sister-in-Law, Ride Hard! – What happens when grandpa takes Yukari’s racket, can Komugi get it to her before her tournament starts?

Chapter 13 – A  Little Brother, Or Something – What happens when Dai’s perverted classmate comes to his home?

Chapter 14 – Full of Komugi – What are all these feelings and dreams that Dai are having of Komugi?

Chapter 15 – Melted Hearts – Dai’s mother is unable to cook dinner, so she has Komugi cook curry for the family?  But with how Dai is feeling towards Komugi, can eat with her?

Chapter 16 – I Want to Hold Hands – Dai gets an idea to test out how he feels by trying to have Komugi’s hand on his.

Chapter 17 – Rocket Night – What happens when Yoshino looks into Komugi’s online photos and finds out that she is a gangster?

Chapter 18 – An Entrapt Gaze – What happens when Yamai suggests they all go camping and it becomes an awkward camping trip between Dai, Yoshino, Yamai, Yukari and their chaperone…Komugi?

Chapter 19 – Camp Scandalous – Dai is scared Yoshino might tell his younger sister the truth that Komugi is a gangster, so he spends a lot of time with her.  Komugi observes all this.

The second volume of “The Delinquent Housewife!” has gotten scandalous and so entertaining that I can’t help but feeling that I want to read more!

In the last volume, I felt it was more of an introduction and Dai trying to keep Komugi’s secret of her being a gangster from her family (or else she would be kicked out of the family home).

In the second volume, everything has changed as all Dai could think about is his future sister-in-law, Komugi.  From the young man thinking about Komugi bathing at his home, the feelings he has when he’s close with her, these are emotions he doesn’t fully understand.

We are introduced to his perverted friend Yamai, who goes to Dai’s home and discovers that his buddy is falling for his future sister-in-law, while Dai reading a popular manga that Yamai and classmates recommend, Dai sees the parallel of the story with his life and his feelings towards Komugi.  And when he accidentally mentions it to his classmate, Yoshino, he is unaware that Yoshino has always liked him and is desperate to win him over.

But when he finds out that Dai likes Komugi, not only does she do all she can to get close to him, she finds out Komugi’s secret of being a gangster through photos posted on her friend’s social media.  As does Yamai.

Knowing this secret can get Komugi kicked out of his house and would upset his mother and younger sister (alluding to his father’s death may have something related to biker gangs and not being able to sleep), Dai will do anything to prevent Komugi’s secret from coming out, even if that means making sure Yoshino keeps quite (and him spending more time with her, which gives Komugi the wrong idea).

For the most part, the storyline was absolutely entertaining and a little dash of craziness with the introduction of the two characters, “The Delinquent Housewife!” has jumped to one of my favorite manga titles to read in 2019.

The artwork by Nemu Yoko is well done and she has her own distinct style of artwork!

If you are looking for a refreshing yet entertaining and fun manga, definitely give Nemu Yoko’s “The Delinquent Housewife!” a try!
