Anime Reviews (2010-2019): Twin Star Exorcists Part 4 (A Neo-Tokyo 2099 Anime on Blu-ray review) (2017)

“Twin Star Exorcists” finale turned out to be much better than I expected.  A lot of drama, action and if anything, the buildup to this finale was well-done.  If you want to watch an anime series that is not too long (50 episodes total) that is filled with action, drama and awesome characters, “Twin Star Exorcists” is a series for you!  Recommended!

Back in 2013, Sukeno Yoshiaki’s “Sosei no Onmyoji” (Twin Star Exorcists) manga was serialized in Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine and is still ongoing in Japan.

A 50-episodes anime adaptation by Studio Pierrot was aired on television back in 2016-2017 and light novels, a video game and spin-off manga were also released in Japan.

The anime series was released in the US in four parts and the fourth part was recently released by Funimation.

The series revolves around a young boy named Rokuro Enmado who aspires to become an exorcist, but a tragic accident made him abandon his dream.

One day, Rokuro meets Benio Adashino, a girl who is a well-known exorcist fro the east.  According to prophecy, Rokuro and Benio are the “Twin Star Exorcists” and are destined to be married and have a child known as Miko, who will become the ultimate exorcist and the reincarnation of Abe no Seimei and will clean all evil spirits (Kegare) from the world and ending the war which has last over a millennium.

In part four, the volume focuses on the final episodes 41-50.

Kuranashi, a powerful Basara, has revealed his scheme to capture all exorcists and use their energy to conquer both Magano and the real world.  He has captured all Twelve Guardians and other exorcists from Japan including Yuto (Benio’s evil twin elder brother who is driven to become the ultimate exorcists by attain the complete power of yang and yin, which would eradicate all life in existence).

But the whole scheme was part of Yuto’s plan and now Yuto has absorbed Kuranashi and all the power he accumulated and by absorbing all of Seimei’s powers, he learned the secret of Rokuro’s origin and that he is actually a Kegare.

How will Rokuro continue knowing that he is an evil spirit that he’s been eradicating all this time and how will this information affect his relationship with Benio?

VIDEO:

“Twin Star Exorcists” is presented in 1080p High Definition and as like most Pierrot anime productions, the animation is wonderful.  Everything from character design, detail in characters, background/foreground artwork, the series looks amazing.  Considering that most TV productions are created with a strict deadline, I was quite impressed by the overall visuals of this anime series.  Animation is wonderful!

AUDIO & SUBTITLES:

“Twin Star Exorcists” is presented in Japanese Dolby TrueHD 2.0 and English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 . Both Japanese and English dub soundtracks are fantastic and dialogue and music are both crystal clear through the center, front and surround channels. But of course, with the English track having a 5.1 soundtrack is the better of the two.  But I definitely credit Han Megumi, Hanae Natsuki, Bryce Papenbrook and Cassandra Morris on their excellent voice acting for this series.

Subtitles are in English.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

“Twin Star Exorcists Part 4” comes with a near three minute special feature with Japanese voice talents Hanae Natsuki & Han Megui’s Twin Star Room vol. 7, textless songs and trailers.

EXTRAS:

Twin Star Exorcists Part 4″ comes with the Blu-ray and DVD version of the film.

Saving the best for last?

It appears that they did just that for the final episodes of “Twin Stars Exorcists” and that leaves me in a conundrum because revealing too much would spoil it for those who have been following the series right to the end.

I will say that this much.  The love between Rokuro and Benio will be tested completely and whether or not they will stay together and whether the world will be destroyed is a major part of this finale.

Also, what will happen with Kuranashi’s sinister plan when he captures the Twelve Guardians and the Rokuro vs. Yuto finally comes to an end.  Who will live and who will survive?

Overall, “Twin Star Exorcists” finale turned out to be much better than I expected.  A lot of drama, action and if anything, the buildup to this finale was well-done.

If you want to watch an anime series that is not too long (50 episodes total) that is filled with action, drama and awesome characters, “Twin Star Exorcists” is a series for you!  Recommended!
