“Spriggan” to receive a new animation over 20-years later

NETFLIX has announced that they have signed a comprehensive business alliance with David Productions.

The studio is best known for the anime production of “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures” and will be bringing back “SPRIGGAN”, which was a manga series from 1989-1996 by Takashige Hiroshi and illustrator Minagawa Ryoji.

The manga (Noah’s Ark story) received an anime film adaptation by Studio 4C back in 1998 and was directed by Kawasaki Hirotsugu and supervised by Otomo Katsuhiro.  At the time, there was a major bidding war over the rights to make the movie and the film was known for utilizing traditional cel animation with computer animation which was very significant at the time.

As for the story behind “SPRIGGAN”, athe top of the world, the ancient artifact known as Noahʼs Ark has been uncovered. It is said that the artifact elevates its keeper to the status of a god or it can be used to eliminate mankind from the Earth in seconds. The race is on as two secret organizations go to battle in their efforts to recover the lost artifact – one seeks to destroy it, and the other wants enslave the human race! It is a battle between the half-human cyborgs versus the secret organization known as ARCAM and their elite agents, the Spriggan in an epic duel for the future of humanity.

The David Production version will be the first “SPRIGGAN” animation in a little over 20 years.  More information to be forthcoming.

In addition to “SPRIGGAN”, it was also announced that CAPCOM’s “Dragon’s Dogma” video game will receive an anime adaptation will be produced as a NETFLIX Original Animation series.
