On June 12th, YOSHIKI posted an Instagram with Jackie Chan. While there are people in other countries who saw it as a cool photo between the X Japan legend and the martial arts film legend, comments were not as positive from those from Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Currently, there are protests in Hong Kong which is trying to stop a debate in Hong Kong’s legislature on an extradition bill.
If the bill is passed, those who are suspected of criminal activity can be sent from Hong Kong to mainland China. where judges serve under the leadership of the Communist Party.
Violence has broken out between protestors and police and dozens of people have been injured.
As for Jackie Chan, he has been a defender of the Chinese Communist Party and anyone who has criticized it, including Taiwan’s democracy.
Chan is promoting his new album in Taiwan and when asked about Hong Kong, according to TVBS, Chan said he was unaware about the protests.
Nevertheless, there were some wondering if the Instagram post was politically motivated, that YOSHIKI was supporting Jackie Chan’s political preference.
While those who are not from Hong Kong and Taiwan defended YOSHIKI for hanging out with Jackie Chan and saying this was all about two entertainers and nothing about politics.
