What is that catchy “Vanilla” song you hear from a Vanilla Truck or Bus?

For those in Tokyo, you will more than likely hear the “Vanilla” song blasting from a bus or a truck,

So, catchy that even a parody of the song was featured in the anime series “Osomatsu-san” called “Banana”.

Also, for those who watched the film  “Tenki no Ko” (Weathering with you), you may have heard the song in the animated film.

While Vanilla bus or truck are advertising vehicles for the job information site Vanilla (note: Ask anyone on the street and some think it’s for sex shops or adult video jobs, we are not sure if anyone really knows).

But who created this catchy song?

Flash recently interviewed the composer to the song who said he wrote the music for “Vanilla” while walking in the downtown area.

The composer known as Mr. A said, “I aimed in creating a song for young women who would turn around without thinking and would feature four or five young women singing. One of them, the pitch was removed intentionally, singing with a soft voice and making a characteristic sound and hook. If you put it together too neatly, it won’t leave an impression”.

According to Mr. A, it took two weeks and when the staff listened to it together, there was an applause.

Mr. A said, “Next year will be the Olympics year, so I would like foreigners who come to Japan to listen to the Vanilla song”.

The women who are featured on the bus/truck advertisements are the two brains behind the vanilla cars who are in charge of public relations at the Vanilla management office.

Saito Nana, one of the people in PR said, “The main target of Vanilla job listings is young women, so we look at fashionable shops and streets that young women go to and decide the route. Sometime we decided based on a map, but we sometimes find out through walking in the downtown area or getting in the passenger seat of the vanilla car”.

Vanilla is no doubt creating a brand that people immediately recognize.

Matsui Mika, the other brain the PR dept. said, “we make a variety of goods such as smartphone cases, t-shirts, stickers, fans, mugs, etc. However, the goal is not to increase sales profits but to create a topic and for people to recognize vanilla”.
