In Japan, celebrity scandals can be a major hit especially if the celebrity has commercials, TV series or movies that were or will be released. As companies consider scandals affecting business and leading to losses.
It has been calculated by a person who works at a performing arts management office that compensation for damages can be as high as 600 million yen (nearly $5.5 million in USD).
Higashide’s commercial contract is estimated to be around Y40-50 million yen but the penalty could be three times as large.
Higashide appeared in four commercials.
