Ito Ran on returning as a singer 41-years later, after the breakup of Candies

Back in 1973, an idol trio known as Candies burst onto the music scene.

Composed of Ran (Ito Ran), Sue (Tanaka Yoshiko) and Miki (Fujimura Miki), the trio were popular among teenagers and young adults and alongside, Pink Lady, they were female pop groups that were on the forefront of Japanese music.

But to the surprise of many, as the group were finally inching closer to a #1 single with their release of their 17th single “Hohoemi Gaeshi”, at the height of their popularity, the group decided that they wanted to be ordinary girls and by in 1978, Candies achieved their first #1 hit single on the Oricon Charts and were performing their farewell concert that April.

For Ito Ran, after 1978, she has not returned to music until now.  Choosing to get married and having children,

What made Ito Ran return back to music, Ito said in an Oricon interview, “I thought it would be fun if I could make my own song world, so I started.  Last year, the album “My Bouquet” was released and my singing activity resumed for the first time in 41 years since Candies disbanded”.

And now Ito Ran continues to perform on her nationwide tour, Ito said, “As for my activity as a singer, I want to add new songs little by little to create my own music world.  For example, since a song that can unite the whole venue or a ballad that is appropriate for your age now!  Something like that.  There are many challenges that I have to overcome and mountains that I have to overcome.  I am fascinated by the world of sound”.
