Tokyo Governor Koike asks people to not go shopping every day, as large lines are seen at supermarkets throughout Tokyo before Golden Week

Tokyo Governer Koike Yuriko has asked people to refrain from shopping everyday, practice going shopping once every three days.

Since April 14th, there have been more than 100 infections reported in Tokyo and with Golden Week (April 25 – May 6) coming up, there is a major concern of increased contact between people that can spread the infection.

The government is promoting “いのちを守る STAYHOME週間” (Inochi o Mamoru STAY HOME Shukan) which means “STAY HOME WEEK to protect lives”.

In addition, a call for people to avoid visiting metropolitan parks, parking lots, playground equipment, open spaces and campsites in natural parks was made.  The cable car at Mt. Takao will also be suspended from April 25 to May 6.

There have been reports throughout Japan of people in line just to do grocery shopping at their local grocery store.
