Japanese netizens comment on SNS regarding announcement that “Yakuza” (Ryu ga Gotoku) will be made into a Hollywood live-action film

It was announced that SEGA will be producing a Hollywood live-action movie based on their popular video game series “Yakuza” (Ryu ga Gotoku) in collaboration with 1212 Entertainment and Wild Sheep Content.

“Yakuza” is SEGA’s best-selling franchise after “Sonic the Hedgehog”.

Here are a few comments from Japanese netizens who have posted on SNS:

Blonde gangster rampages in Los Angeles?

Will Kiryu be Korean?

SEGA is the only one who has the money.

Like a dragon, he’ll become like a Super Saiyan

I think gangster movies and yakuza movies can be made the same way.

I hope they find a decent screenwriter

I have a bad feeling about this.

Hollywood Yakuza?  Shouldn’t they call it “Mafia”?

Isn’t it unusual for a Yakuza film to be made in Hollywood?  Maybe better as a yakuza drama on Netflix.

Will this be a battle between Chinese and Korean gangsters?

For some reason, this will become popular overseas.

Are they going to shoot in Kabukicho or Chinatown?

Mashima’s brother is probably going to be Black.

Maybe it will star Jackie Chan or Sammo Hung?

The main character will probably be Black?

Maybe it will be a Caucasian Yakuza?

I hope they make it flashy like Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill”

Will it have Kamehameha?

As long as it’s better than the Japanese live-action film.

As for the 2007 Japanese live-action film, you can watch the trailer here:
