NiziU becomes the first music group to appear on Kouhaku Uta Gassen the fastest after debut, breaking the 2005 record set by WaT

NHK surprised many with its guest announcement that NiziU, a pop group that has not debuted in Japan yet (they debut on December 2nd) will appear on the 71st NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen.

This has broken records of the fastest a new group has appeared on the red white New Year’s eve special, the last group, WaT appeared in 2005 after a month and 29 days of their debut.

NiziU was born through a joint project between Sony Music and JYP Entertainment, a major Korean entertainment agency.  After winning the audition with more than 10,000 applicants, nine people were selected as members of NiziU.
