Watabe Ken holds press conference to apologize for his scandal

Back in June, Unjash comedian and popular entertainer Watabe Ken (47) was outted by the publication Bunshun for his sexual affairs with many women and betraying his wife, model Sasaki Nozomi (32).  Going as far to have these affairs while they were dating, while she was pregnant and for the most part, the once popular entertainer became Japan’s most hated entertainer.

And for months, it was discussed that Watabe would hold a press conference and the entertainer has finally done so on December 3rd in Tokyo.

Watabe said, “This time, the very careless actions I have done has caused a great deal of inconvenience to many people.  I sincerely apologize for making many people feel uncomfortable. I’m very sorry”.

The press conference lasted for one hour and 40 minutes and he repeated the words, “I did something very stupid”.

Many noticed that Watabe looked thinner and was asked by a reporter about it, Watabe said, “I don’t know exactly, but I lost some weight” (news sources say that they think he lost around 15 pounds).

Watabe also knows how he affected his wife and his comedy partner, Kojima Kazuya and others saying, “I made innocent people bow their head and shed tears, they don’t have to apologize. They have every right to be angry”.

Watabe said, “I’m full of apologies.  From now on….  Today’s press conference is the first step.  I want to start over”.

When asked why he waited almost half a year to have a press conference, Watabe said, “I thought I wouldn’t have a press conference.  I thought the situation would be settled if I was interviewed by Bunshun”.

According to the Bunshun article, he met one woman at a secret meeting place at Roppongi Hills.  One woman said he requested to meet her at a multi-purpose restroom designated for people with disabilities. He would use a toilet stall to have his private sexual encounters.

During the press conference, he was asked by a reporter about why he used a multi-purpose toilet, Watabe said, “I really…I chose it on my own”.

The woman said Watabe looked at her more as a sexual object, not as a woman.

Watabe acknowledged the affairs through his management with the following statement, “I am deeply sorry that I had immoral relationships with a woman that was featured.  I caused a great deal of inconvenience to everyone who supported my family and are deeply hurt.  I apologize and I am very sorry”.
