Imai Eriko’s son makes his debut as a pro wrestler

Former SPEED member Imai Eriko, a member of the House of Councillors for the Liberal Democratic Party, updated her Instagram on December 8th and wrote about how her teenage son Raimu made his debut as a professional wrestler.

Since Imai gave birth, she has been public about how her son was born with congenital hearing loss and has worked help families who have children who are hearing impaired, which eventually would lead her to a role of politics.

Imai writes, “From the day you told me you wanted to be a professional wrestler, as a mother, I had days with conflicted feelings. Can you do professional wrestling, even if you can’t hear? What if you get injured? Is it okay not to go on to high school? To be honest, I had mixed feelings such as anxiety and worries. But I would never stop my son’s dreams… thoughts… Don’t stop him.. I told myself over and over again. I swore when I learned my son was born and couldn’t hear, that I would accept my son’s dreams as a mother. I remembered how my mother always smiled and it stayed with me. Even if I said that you couldn’t do it because your disability, I kept that voice inside and never told my son. I wanted to believe that he could do it and to keep pursing his dreams. One of those dreams came true today. That dream came true not only because of the power of my son alone but also because of the Heat-Up wrestlers and everyone who has supported him. I’m really thankful to you. Today is not the goal, today is the start. He lost his debut match but he will continue to challenge himself and I want him to become a wrestler who can make people smile and give courage to many people. Do your best as long as you want to continue. If you ever decide that you want to quit, you can always come back. Mother is always watching over you. Thank you for giving your best today”.
