“Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen” is now the #1 film in Japan for box office revenue

“Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen” has surpassed “Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi” (Spirited Away) to become the #1 film in box office revenue.

Aniplex announced that “Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen” (which was released in theaters on October 16th) has earned Y32.47 billion (US $313.791 million) surpassing the box office earnings of “Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi” (Spirited Away) which had the record of  Y31.8 billion yen and was the #1 box office earning film in Japan for 19 years.

It took “Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi” eight months to break 30 billion yen in box office earnings, but “Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen” did it in two months.

And expect that number to go up even further as “Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen” is set to open in theaters in Asia and also is coming to North America next year.
