RADWIMPS Kuwahara Akira suspends activities from band after affair, band members feel betrayed

Kuwahara Akira (36), guitarist of RADWIMPS, was caught by the tabloid Bunshun for having an affair with a former model in her 20’s. The band announced on their website on the 17th that he has been suspended.

The band announced on the official website that the news about Kuwahara Akira is true and Kuwahara decided to suspend activities. The band wrote, “we apologize for the concern and inconvenience this has caused to everyone who supports RADWIMPS”.

Meanwhile, drummer Yamaguchi Satoshi (36) has been resting indefinitely due to worsening illness and the band announced that they will continue on with two members Noda Yojiro and Takeda Yusuke.

Both Noda and Takeda wrote a joint statement posted on the website if Kuwahara was having an affair and each time, he said he wasn’t.  And they are deeply hurt by the news article about his affair.

Noda and Takeda both wrote, “Instead of apologizing,  he should say ‘I will not make my wife and child unhappy for the rest of my life'”.

Both feel betrayed by their fellow band member’s affair and wrote, “We have no idea how to play music with Kuwahara from now on. We would like to take the time to have conversations with the members and staff and come to a conclusion. And above all, the wife and child who suffered great damage from Kuwahara’s actions will continue to be with us as our family for the rest of our lives. It’s been a mess, but it’s our feeling now”.

Kuwahara got married to his wife, who he met 10 years ago and his first child was born in May 2019.  Kuwahara met a woman at a drinking party in February of last year and started to spend more time with the woman at her home a year ago.
