Asakura Mikuru regrets taking part in “10 million yen if you win a street fight”

As reported yesterday, Abema held a special “10 million yen if you win a street fight”. The celebrity street fight special featured talents hoping to win ten million yen if they could beat professional mixed martial artist Asakura Mikuru in a street fight.

No one lasted more than 50 seconds.

Goto Yuki (former EE Jump member and younger brother of Goto Maki) barely made it through, lasting 45 seconds.

But Asakura Mikuru has received negative comments for taking part in the Abema special, saying that he looked like he was bullying weak people.

Asakura posted a YouTube video and said, “There were pros and cons regarding this project, and there were quite a few criticism. I heard various opinions until today and I feel that it was not a good project. From my point of view, really regret that I didn’t think about it. I did it to expand my martial arts, but the simple impression was that it wasn’t a good way to go about it. I don’t think it was good” (Asakura then bowed).

“I ‘m not planning this kind of project in the future. I was wondering if the problem was the set on the street and it was a real street fight. If it was on the ring, it would normally have been a project. It was a real feeling, and I was adjusting to it, but I wondered if it wasn’t a good feeling for the viewers of doing it strongly. That’s what I’m thinking”.

Perhaps it would have been better to have people from different countries with martial arts expertise, like the “Street Fighter” video games, that would appeal to viewers.  While having talents take part in the street fight, while interesting, no one expects them to be a professional mixed martial artist.
