With the death of mangaka Miura Kentarou, the creator of “Berserk”, no one knew if the epic storyline would continue.

It was announced that “Berserk” will continue in the 13th issue of the serialized magazine “Young Animal” (Hakusensha) which will be released on June 24th.

The author, Miura Kentarou passed away in May of last year at the age of 54 due to acute aortic dissection but Mori Kouji, a mangaka who has a close association with Miura (Miura communicated with Mori in regards to the storyline, as the two were best friends), will continue the story. The serialization will be resumed by drawings by studio Iga, to staff who were supervised and worked under Miura and the new storyline will be supervised by Mori.

Young Animal Editorial Department posted the following statement, “Upon reopening, we, the production team, decided on a basic stance. ‘Mr. Miura said that’.   This is what the production team remembered.  Since there is no name left, it is impossible for us to perfectly shape the manuscript that Miura-san was trying to make, but we composed the manga so as not to deviate from what Mr. Miura was talking about.  We would like to sincerely spin ” Miura Kentarou” that has taken root in ourselves through conversations with Miura-san and manuscript production.  I believe that this production system is the way to convey the “Berserk” that Miura-san envisioned to everyone as faithfully as possible”.

“From the next issue to the last of “Phantom World Edition / Fairy Island Chapter”, we will first publish 6 chapters. After that, we are planning to enter a new edition.
The credit after the resumption will be “Original, Miura Kentaro Manga, Studio Iga Supervision, Mori Kouji “, and the numbering of the book will be inherited”.

“It’s an old story, but the first volume of “Berserk” published in 1990 was released in the first edition of 28,000 copies. It wasn’t an immediate hit, it was a work known to those in the know at the time. Even so, I think that the reason why I got enthusiastic fans and did not let go is that the author’s desire to ‘draw more amazing manga!’ which was conveyed. After that, it became a big hit by attracting readers to the author’s extraordinary efforts and some good luck. Today, there are 2 million people in the world who have read the first volume. And I think it had a strong impact on the hearts of many fans. I am sure that he will be very happy that Miura’s thoughts are being utilized in everyone’s life and work. We hope that you will be able to relate to such works in the future of ‘Berserk'”.

“Thank you to all the fans who gave us their voice. We are also grateful to the many fans who quietly thought about the work without speaking out. Your presence will be the energy to move forward.  We are really thankful to you”.
