Singer/songwriter Oda Kazumasa (74) updated his website on September 8th and announced that he will no longer allow his fans to turn on their smartphone lights during live performances which he had previously favored.

Due to the novel coronavirus, at Oda’s live, fans who can not raise their voices of support due to the novel coronavirus were encouraged to turn on their smartphone lights and wave them along with the song to show their support. The act of expressing is spreading, and among fans, voices such as “the sea of lights” and “the waves of lights are beautiful” were raised. Also, in the official blog by the Oda staff, “We staff were very impressed by the loud applause and applause from the audience, and the smartphone lights that gradually lit up!”

On the other hand, there was a possibility that the lighting would be used to record and record with a smartphone, and there were voices of dissatisfaction from fans.

“When the smartphone lights were turned on from the audience seats at the Hiroshima performance, we were deeply moved by everyone’s thoughts and encouraging messages to Oda, the band members, and the staff. We were really happy. After many considerations, including with Oda, we have unfortunately decided to refrain from using smartphone lights in the future. We feel that it is very difficult to share the thoughts with many people, but we would like to continue to seek ways to share fun times with everyone”.
