Raul Chaser thought his destiny was to fight in the Demon War… until the war unexpectedly ended and the Hero Training Program he was in was shut down! That sucked, as few civilian businesses require demonic combat training, and Raul’s futile job hunt ultimately finds him employed in a department store. As bad as Raul’s culture adjustments, however, his newest co-worker is having an even worse time. That’s because Fino Bloodstone is the daughter of the deceased Demon King! Having a Demon Slayer and a Princess of Hell in the same employee lunchroom could make for some awkward moments, but things only become more complicated when they start to suspect that a rival retail chain has sinister plans for global domination in, I COULDN’t BECOME A HERO, SO I RELUCTANTLY DECIDED TO GET A JOB!

In 2012, “Yūsha ni Narenakatta Ore wa Shibushibu Shūshoku o Ketsui Shimashita.” (I Couldn’t Become a Hero, So I reluctantly Decided to Get a Job) would be released in a light novel series by Sakyo Jun and illustrator Inuzumi Masaki.

Because the title was quite long, in Japan, the shortened title was known as “Yusibu”. And the light novel series would become popular and would be awarded Gold in the 23rd Fantasia Awards.

By 2013, the light novel would receive an anime adaptation courtesy of Asread.

Featuring 12 episodes and one OAV, the 13 episodes has been collected in “Yusibu: I Couldn’t Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job – Complete Collection” courtesy of Sentai Filmworks.

The anime series revolved around Raul Chaser, a soldier that is so close to becoming a “Hero” through the Hero Training Program of the Hero Academy.  Many of the soldiers in the program knew that Raul and his combat partner Airi were the top of the class and he has been fighting the demon war to take down the Demon King.

And just when he was about to make his move…  the Hero Training Program was shut down as the war between the hero and demons have come to a truce with the death of the Demon King.

And this led to no need for a Hero Academy and no need for armor and weapons and soldiers and heroes were now out of a job.

For Raul, needing a job, he reluctantly takes a job at a department store, Reon.

But when a new employee is hired, Raul finds out he must train the new person, who happens to be Fino Bloodstone, the daughter of the deceased Demon King.

Raul doesn’t care to help his enemy’s daughter, but considering this is a job and he’s not a person to break rules, he does all he can to train Fino.

But the more he helped Fino, he discovers that she’s more like him than a demon and that she is dedicated to being a good employee and to make Raul and her co-workers proud of her.

For the most part, “Yusibu” is an entertaining anime series with a ton of fan service.

In fact, prior to watching this series, I thought this was going to be one of those perverted anime series that is more T&A and less of a story.  As episodes progressed and we are introduced to each of the characters of the series, the storyline and the characters really start to capture your attention.

While both are complete opposites, you can’t help but think that “opposites attract”.  With Raul, he is a person who gave his life to become a warrior who would pass the training to become a hero.  But now he must do all he can to train Fino, despite her not wanting to wear a bra, always scaring people with her attitude as a demon and of course, naive to human conversations and situations.

And of course, there is an antagonist.  Possibly a few but I will not spoil this anime for you because it’s a series worth watching.

The anime series looks very good in HD and it’s important to note that that this anime series only comes with a Japanese soundtrack, no English dub and like many anime series these days, you don’t get hardly any special features but the clean opening and closing animations.

But you do get all 12 TV episodes + the OVA episode!

Entertaining, perverted and a lot of fan service.  If you are looking for a series with action and humor, definitely give “Yusibu: I Couldn’t Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job – Complete Collection” a try!
