Former 80s idol Matsumoto Iyo injured during the recording of “Ookami Shounen”

Former ’80s idol turned media personality, Matsumoto Iyo (57) was injured during the recording of the TBS variety show “Ookami Shounen” and fractured her lumbar vertebrae.

During the recording, Matsumoto and husband Hiromi answered a wrong answer and she was to land on a padded pit but wyhen she fell, she fractured her lumbar vertebrae. She was diagnosed at the hospital and was told it would take three months to heal.

A statement was released, “This project has been done twice in the past, and this time we repeated simulations in advance, and tried to take safety measures such as laying a large amount of urethane on the landing area to absorb the impact, but unfortunately this was the result. In order to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future, we will further strengthen safety management when producing programs”.

Matsumoto released the following statement, “I apologize for worrying you. I will focus on treatment now and do my best to get well soon”.

This is the second fracture to the spine for Matsumoto, who had a compression fracture while exercising back on July 2021.

Matsumoto won the “Rookie of the Year Award” at the 24th Japan Record Awards back in 1982.  Her husband is TV talent Matsumoto Hiromi and her son is actor, Kozono Ryo.
