There was a time when groups of teenagers would get together to put on plays by themselves, but with the availability of modern cameras, they’re just as likely now to make movies instead. Kaito Kirishima is one such aspiring filmmaker, and since the death of his parents, capturing stories and images on video has become an even more important way of permanently preserving memories. Then things get strange and he meets a girl who’s from a bit farther away than usual, and they bring Kaito’s closest circle of friends together on a project that will change their worlds forever. Because little else bonds people together like sharing a secret, and the new girl Ichika has a major one. Something wonderful lies ahead as a group of teens discover the mysteries and marvels WAITING IN THE SUMMER!

For those who missed the 2012 anime series “Ano Natsu de Matteru” (Waiting in the Summer), the Geneon/Genco produced anime series produced by J.C. staff, will be re-released courtesy of Sentai Filmworks.

Boostened by the involvement and popularity of Uon Taraku (known for the creation of the “Onegai!” (Please!) franchise (“Onegai Sensei!” and “Onegai Twins!”), who created the character designs for the series, “Waiting in the Summer” would air on television back in January through March 2012.

Featuring 12 episodes + an OVA episode, the series showcases young love storyline than brings together teenage drama with sci-fi elements.

The main premise of the storyline is about a group of friends.  The main character, Kirishima Kaito, is an videographer and wants to capture memories on film.  His life changes when he meets Takatsuki Ichika, an alien who crash lands on Earth injuring Kaito.

To save his life, she kisses him which transfers nanomachines which provides medical treatment to him and stays near him to insure that he is doing well and that his condition gets better.

So, Takatsuki ends up attending his school, being Kaito’s friends (and welcomed to his circle of friends) and even living with him when Kaito’s sister invites her to stay with him (as she doesn’t have a place to stay).

She fears that Kaito and others will find out that she is an alien and doesn’t want to be reported to the Men in Black, so while she maintains friendships, she tries not to get too close.

But when Takatsuki and friends become part of Kaito’s film, the two grow closer to each other and realize they have fallen for each other.

But can such a relationship happen?  Will Takatsuki reveal her secret to Kaito?

For the most part, “Ano Natsu de Matteru” (Waiting in the Summer) is a fun, short teenage drama series.  Sure it has sci-fi elements but for the most part, it’s a teenage love story with dramatic elements (and yes, even some fan service for those who enjoy that), considering there are some interesting love triangles among the friends.

It’s a short anime series, so it is an easy anime series to follow and enjoy! If you are looking for a teenage love story, check out “Waiting in the Summer”!
