Koto is a total pervert whose inability to project any emotion is a constant problem. Tsukiko, on the other hand, has the opposite issue and can’t stop blurting out whatever she happens to be thinking, no matter how juvenile or inappropriate. So, when these two misfits each learn about a stone statue of a cat that can magically remove a single personality trait, they jump on it.

Unfortunately, it turns out that the cat doesn’t just take the personality trait away, it transfers it to somebody else! Now Koto can’t stop talking without a filter for his perverted thoughts while Tsukiko is unable to display emotion! So the only solution to their NEW problems is to find the original owners of the problems the cat has “fixed” and arrange an un-swap!

Author Sagara Sou wrote the light novel series “Hentai Oji to Warawani Neko” (known to others as “The ‘Hentai’ Prince and the Stony Cat.”) which lasted 13 volumes from 2010-2019.

Back in 2013, J.C. staff created the 12-episode anime series adaptation of “Hentai Oji to Warawani Neko” and its available on Blu-ray courtesy of Sentai Filmworks.

The series revolves around Yokodera Yoto, a person who secretly is a huge pervert.  His buddy Ponta is getting rid of his porn magazines to Yoto, which shocks him because Ponta was also a huge pervert.  But according to his friend, he was able to get rid of his impure thoughts by going up to the hill, where the statue of the Stony Cat is located.

But by giving up the trait, will remove the unwanted trait and give it to another person who does need it.

So, while going to the Stony Cat statue (giving up his perverted pillow as an offering), there is also another person there, Tsutsukakushi Tsukiko.  Tsukiko wants to be more of an adult and not show her emotions so easily.

So, the two make their wish and Yoto and Tsukiko’s offerings disappear.

But the two change, with Yoto, he’s unable to tell a lie and if asked something, he will say whatever he’s thinking (even if its perverted), he blurts it out.  This unfortunately earns him the title of the Hentai Prince.

As for Tsukiko, she loses all signs of emotion.

And now, Yoto and Tsukiko must find who inherited their trait, so they can get it back.  But in the process, while working together, Tsukiko starts to have a crush on the hentai prince!  Unfortunately, there are other girls in school who also like Yoto, making things a bit complicated.

The series was rather interesting because my first impression was that this is going to be a perverted anime series.

For one, “Hentai” in the series title and the main protagonist, blurts anything perverted that is on his mind.

But that’s where the perversion starts to end, if anything, there is a pretty fascinating story that develops as Yoto meets others and while he and Tsukiko try to get their trait back.  I don’t want to spoil the storyline, since this is a short anime series, but I will say that you do get fan service, but as the series progresses, the storyline becomes a bit more dramatic and somewhat serious and dramatic, in a good sense.

For the most part, this anime series is for those who like anime with perversion, fan service, but also want a good story and cool characters.

Obviously, with the anime series created in 2013 and the light novels ending in 2019, there is still a lot more story to tell.  So, with 12 episodes, these are cool episodes that delve into the lives of these characters and explores their background and important parts of their lives.  And hopefully, perhaps another anime season will be released to incorporate the newer storylines that were released in the light novels in the near future.

Overall, “Hentai Oji to Warawani Neko” is definitely worth checking out!
