A new anime series will be produced to commemorate the 40th anniversary of “Hokuto no Ken” (Fist of the North Star)

It was decided that a new anime series will be produced to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the original work of the popular manga “Hokuto no Ken” (better known outside of Japan as “Fist of the North Star”).

A teaser visual has been released, and comments from the original authors Buronson and Hara Tetsuo have also arrived. Warner Bros. Japan will be in charge of production.

“Hokuto no Ken” is a monumental action manga with over 100 million copies in circulation. In 1983 “Weekly Shonen Jump”, which began serialization on TV and was aired in 1984 as an anime version, achieving a maximum audience rating of 23.4% and quickly becoming a social phenomenon.

To this day, it has been loved by many fans around the world through various media outlets.

“Hokuto no Ken” manga will be released on September 13, 2023, which is “Fist of the North Star Day” (from September 13, 1983, when serialization began in “Weekly Shonen Jump”) to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the original work. It was announced that it would be made into an anime series.

The teaser key visual released at the same time depicts Kenshiro standing from behind, blocking Mohicans riding a motorcycle.

The original author, Buronson, said, “‘Hokuto no Ken’ which has been loved by everyone for 40 years, will be released as a new anime work.  I want to enjoy it with you all.”.

The original illustrator, Hara Tetsuo said, “40 years ago. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the pictures I’ve put so much thought into have been reincarnated by the production staff who are full of love for the original work, and how they’ll go wild!”.

Details such as broadcasting/distribution platform and release date will be announced later.
