Nippon Broadcasting apologizes for Okamura Takashi’s sexist remarks

Nippon Broadcast Co., Ltd. released an apology statement due to Okamura Takashi’s comments on his “Ninety-nine Okamura Takashi no All Night Nippon” radio broadcast.

The apology is as follows:

Takashi made a statement due to the current lack of awareness of the corona virus situation and a statement lacking consideration for the dignity and occupation of women.  We apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable for listening to the broadcast and to everyone involved.  We will strive to further educate all of the production staff involved in our program.

On April 23rd, Okamura (one half of the comedy duo Ninety-Nine) was responding to an e-mail from a listener about going to the sex shop during the coronavirus lockdown.

Okamura said that due to the lost of income women during the coronavirus lockdown, there will be women who will try to make money for the short-term by offering sex for the next three months.

The comment did not go well with many people on SNS.  As for the apology made by Nippon Broadcasting, comments were as follows:

Where is the apology from the person who made the statement?

The true nature of a person can be seen with what’s happening due to the novel coronavirus.  I couldn’t get over with what he said, it was the worst.

The statement is true that he lacked consideration but what listeners want to hear is Okamura’s true intentions rather than careful remarks.  People who feel uncomfortable when listening to the radio are different from those who feel uncomfortable after reading an article.

Okamura-san’s fans are supposed to be most of the late-night radio listeners and even without criticism, the radio has good free talk.

When will he say anything about this?  This coming Thursday’s broadcast?  Isn’t that too long?
