On the 28th, Shueisha announced that the cumulative circulation of the popular manga “Kingdom” by Hara Yasuhisa will exceed 100 million copies (including the electronic version) with the 70th volume to be released on November 17th.

It has been 17 years since the serialization began in 2006, and it has reached the milestone, making it the first manga magazine published by Shueisha to sell more than 100 million copies.

In addition, Shueisha’s works with a cumulative circulation of over 100 million copies include “Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen-mae Hashutsusho”, “DRAGON BALL”, “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” series, “SLAM DUNK” “ONE PIECE”, NARUTO”, “BLEACH” and “Kimetsu no Yaiba”.

Hara wrote in regards to the grand achievement, “17 years ago, the first volume of ‘Kingdom’ started with an initial edition of 25,000 copies. Similar to the rankings in the “Jump” survey, the comics had a hard time getting reprinted, and by the third volume, the initial printing had dropped to 15,000 copies. I realized how difficult it was to get people to read it. But from then on, I didn’t give up week after week and continued to draw the manga tenaciously, and gradually I realized that the number of people who read ‘Kingdom’ gradually increased. With the opportunity to create a stage play and many mix media, ‘Kingdom’ has further spread to the world. Along the way, we achieved our long-awaited goal of selling 1 million copies for the first edition of the new book, and before we knew it, we had reached a huge number of copies, reaching a cumulative total of 100 million copies. This comic book that we are holding in front of our eyes now has 100 million copies sold nationwide, including the electronic version. This is an amount that is hard to imagine. To all the readers of “Kingdom”, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude. Thank you very much”.
