The manga serialization of the soccer manga “Captain Tsubasa” by Takahashi Yoichi (63) will end with “Captain Tsubasa Magazine vol. 20” to be released on April 4th, marking the 43rd anniversary of the serialization of the series that started in 1981.

The reason for the end of the manga series was that it became difficult for the author, Takahashi, to draw manga due to his declining physical strength and changes in his writing environment. Takahashi said, “I am retiring as a manga artist, but… I still like drawing pictures and coming up with stories, so I plan to continue doing those things”.

Although the manga series has ended, Shueisha announced today on the 3rd that future stories will be published on the newly launched website “Captain Tsubasa WORLD” starting this summer, and will be serialized weekly in pencil-drawn format.

According to Takahashi, it would take over 40 years to turn all of the future stories that are still in development into manga, so he continues to produce them without inking or tones. “This will speed up the pace of my writing, and the pace at which I can share future stories with you,” he explained.
