The following review is from November 1998

In Japan, the one Christmas song that has become a Christmas classic is Yamashita Tatsuro’s 1983 hit holiday single “Christmas Eve”.

The song is used on commercials, television and you will always hear Yamashita’s “Christmas Eve” playing in the convenience store, restaurant and shopping complex.  And the song has no doubt symbolized love on Christmas Eve thanks to the JR Commercials.

And so, every Christmas time, this has been a must-listen to Christmas J-pop song!

The single also comes with an English cover of Irving Berlin’s 1940 Christmas classic, “White Christmas”.  The song is straight up acapella and Yamashita’s usual magic of using his smooth vocals for the chorus was well-done.

Overall, Yamashita Tatsuro’s “Christmas Eve” is just one of those must-play songs and for me, this single is one of the few that I own that will always be played every year!   Recommended!
