Iwata Karen injured in traffic accident

Actress and former AKB48 member Iwata Karen (20) was to appear at the “Sendai Bosaimirai Forum 2019” (Sendai Disaster Forum 2019) on March 10th to commemorate the Tohoku Tsunami and Earthquake disaster which happened on March 11, 2011.

Iwata who was scheduled to appear will be unable to after being involved in a traffic accident, breaking her finger after a fall from her moped in Tokyo on March 8th.

Iwata apologized that she is unable to appear at the event.

Iwata Karen was the face for AKB48 for the Tohoku Tsunami and Earthquake Disaster as she grew up in Sendai which was hit hard during the disaster and she and her family lived in a shelter.

Her family encouraged her to continue her dreams and audition for AKB48 and she joined as a kenkyuusei (trainee) in April 2011.  Later that year, Iwata auditioned for a role in the anime series “AKB0048” and was selected to do the voice of the main character Motomiya Nagisa.

She graduated in March 2016 to pursue her dream of becoming an actress.
