It has been revealed that the AKB48 Theater in Akihabara, Tokyo, the sacred place of the idol group AKB48, will be completely renovated due to its aging condition.

The announcement was made on the 17th at “AKB48 Spring Concert 2024 in Pia Arena MM Night Part ~Namida wa Itsudai~” held at Pia Arena MM in Yokohama.

It has been over 18 years since it opened on December 8, 2005. Due to its age, it was decided that the theater would undergo a complete renovation. The last performance at the current theater was held on September 1st, and renovation work took about three months from September 2nd to December 7th.

On December 8th, on the 19th anniversary, the first day of renewal was to be held with a new original performance written by general producer Akimoto Yasushi, which had been postponed twice. While the theater is under construction, performances will be held throughout Japan. Details will be announced at a later date.
