The increase of geek Johnny’s Jimusho members

In a recent article from News Post Seven, the article is regarding members of Johnny’s Jimusho who are otaku and the number is increasing.

It’s well known that Kimura Takuya is a huge “ONE PIECE” fan, Kanjani Eight’s Yokoyama Yu is a big “Dragon Ball” fan, Kis-My-Ft2’s Miyata Toshiya is a big anime and manga fan.  Hey! Say! JUMO’s Yamada Ryosuke is into bishojo manga thanks to the influences of his sisters.

And now King & Prince member Takahashi Kaito had his manga debut for a bishojo story titled “Boku no Super Love Story ~ Oji to Danshi wa Kamihitoe” and his work has been published in the monthly magazine “Betsucomi” May issue from Shogakukan.

In the past, Johnny’s Jimusho members were often showcased as guys who love sports.  Hikaru Genji was often seen with their roller skates, SMAP was often seen in athletic style programs such as “Ai Love Smap” and even Tokio would compete in athletic competitions in the earlier years of “The! Tetsuwan! Dash!”.

But there always was a connection with anime or manga.  For example, former SMAP member Katori Shingo was the voice actor for Riya for “Akazukin Chaha” and Haomaru for “Samurai Spirits” and numerous Johnny’s songs have been theme songs for anime series.

But in today’s era, seeing male or even female idols into anime and manga is quite common and not as unspoken like it was back in the ’80s or ’90s.  A reflection of today’s society and the fact that anime and manga are enjoyed by everyone, even cool guys!
