The return of BOØWY

Back in 1981, a rock band known as  BOØWY bursted into the music scene with vocalist Himuro Kyosuke, guitarist Hotei Tomoyasu, bassist Matsui Tsunematsu and drummer Takahashi Makoto.

The band has no doubt became one of Japan’s most well known and successful rock bands of the ’80s and became the first male artists to have three number one albums in a single year in 1988 and that same year, announced that they broke up.

The group was named Artist of the Year at the 3rd annual Japan Gold Disc Awards in 1989 and the band is credited for the “Band Boom” in Japan.

While members went on to do well in their solo career, but members hoped one day the band would reunite.

The group will reunite but only for a new album project titled “GUITARRHYTHM VI” and the album will be released on May 29th.

And a photo was posted with vocalist/guitarist Hotei Tomoyasu, bassist Matsui Tsunematsu and drummer Takahashi Makoto.  This would be the first time the three had worked together in 31 years since the release of the album “LAST GIGS” (a live album released back on May 3, 1988).

Vocalist Himuro Kyousuke (who now lives in Los Angeles) retired from music activities due to his hearing impairment.
