How to make Norishio Sugomori Chahan (seaweed salted potato chips on fried rice) like in Shinkai Makoto’s “Tenki no Ko” film

In the Shinkai Makoto animated film “Tenki no Ko”, there is a scene when characters  Morishima Hodaka and Amano Hina are sitting together and eating “Norishio Sugomori Chahan” (a fried rice dish with onions, grated ginger, bean sprouts, egg yolk and Calbee seaweed salted potato chips).

Shinkai Makoto tweeted about it on his Twitter and recommended people to check out the recipe video service website Kurashiru and sure enough, Kurashiru posted a how-to video on how to make the dish on Twitter:

 


The Recipe (One Serving)

  • 200g (7/8 cup) of rice
  • Potato chips (seaweed salt taste) 15 g
  • 1/4 onion
  • 1/4 pack of bean sprouts
  • 1 teaspoon of soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon of round chicken stock (powdered – salt, chicken extract).
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • topping- egg yolk

Instructions on How to Make the Dish

  1. Chop the onions.
  2. After cutting off the root of the bean sprouts, cut it into 2 cm wide (.78 inches)
  3. Put sesame oil, grated ginger and onions in a frying pan and cook over low heat.
  4. Change to medium heat when you smell the grated ginger.
  5. When the onion is fried, add half the amount of rice and then add the soy sauce, round chicken stock and bean sprouts.
  6. Add the potato chips by hand, lightly crushing it on the rice. Once it is mixed quickly, pour it into a bowl and make it hollow.
  7. Add the remaining rice and make an indentation in the center and place the egg yolk in the center to complete.

Cooking tips and points

・ Please adjust saltiness to your liking.

・ Avoid eating eggs if you are elderly, infants under 2 years of age, pregnant women, or those with impaired immune function.
