Ginowan locals in Okinawa want September 16th to be “Amuro Namie Day”

Locals in Ginowan City, Okinawa want September 16th to be “Amuro Namie Day” (安室奈美恵の日/Amuro Namie no Hi) to celebrate Amuro Namie’s anniversary of her retirement.

The special day is being established by the Ginowan City Tourism Promotion Association and on August 23rd, the Japanese National Day Association applied for an official anniversary registration.  The establishment of this day by Ginowan City has been approved by Amuro Namie.

Amuro Namie, known in Japan as “The Queen of Pop” retired in Sept. 16, 2018.

Ginowan City is where Amuro held her first live performance in Okinawa back in 1995.
