Disney Japan apologizes for stealth marketing promotions for “Frozen 2”

Disney Japan has apologized for “stealth marketing” (sutema) promotions of “Ana to Yuki no Joo 2” (Frozen 2).

On December 3rd, around seven artists started posting images of “Ana to Yuki no Joo 2” about having watched the film.

It didn’t take long for their followers to call them out that it was “sutema” (stealth marketing) and each artist then posted an apology of forgetting to put the #PR tag:

Disney Japan eventually apologized for promoting its film through third-party tweets not flagged as advertisements and admitted that they asked seven artist to create and tweet illustrations expressing their reactions to the film without directing them to mark it as a promotion and due to lack of communication, failed to mention that the creators had to mention that it was for promotions.

Disney Japan wrote in their statement

, “We deeply apologize for causing trouble to all the creators who participated and all of the film’s fans”.
