Actress Sawajiri Erika sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for three years

Actress Sawajiri Erika has been sentenced by the Tokyo District Court to 18 months in prison, suspended for three years for possession of MDMA and LSD.

Sawajiri will not get any prison time with the suspended sentence but if she gets in trouble again, she will more than likely face incarceration.

Judged Takioka Toshifumi said that Sawajiri “pleased guilty and showed remorse. Her doctor and older brother have also offered to support her”.

Takioka told Sawajiri, “I want you to make efforts to recover trust”.

Prosecutors sought for an 18-month prison term, while her defense asked for a suspended sentence.  Her defense said there is no possibility of Sawajiri committing any similar offenses in the future as she has been receiving medical treatment since she was released on bail back in December.

Sawajiri released the following handwritten comment through her office, Avex Management.

“I apologize deeply for the inconvenience I have caused in society.  I think that the only way to compensate is to make my best effort to rehabilitate myself.  I will return as a woman and a member of society”.

Last Friday, Sawajiri told the judge that she does not plan to return to work as an actress.
