The awaited sequel to the 2018 “BG” (Personal Bodyguard) drama, there is no doubt a sadness that TV Asahi’s “BG ~shinpen keigo hito~” was affected by the novel corona virus (many other dramas for other TV stations were also impacted).

Originally scheduled to air from April-June 2020, the second season of the popular drama series was only able to begin shooting in June and its episodes were shortened and had to be completed by the end of July with the seventh episode (most dramas in Japan average 12 episodes per quarter).

Needless to say, this was not the sequel that everyone hoped that the drama and its stars would receive but it was the only option for TV stations to keep to their drama schedule for the year and not affect the summer dramas which were to air from July-August, without having to resort to canceling or postponing the drama series.

For actor Kimura Takuya, who has starred in many high rated dramas, shooting “BG ~shinpen keigo hito” was tough.

As for the regrets, Kimura Takuya said, “To be honest I had a lot of regrets. I couldn’t shake hands with the guests who came, I wasn’t able to give a high-five when we had a great shot. I’m really disappointed! The performers cranked their performance to the highest level and I wanted to say “Thank you!” and I wanted to hug, give a high-five and shake hands with them, but I couldn’t do that”.

When asked to give a message to viewers of tonight’s finale, Kimura said, “The number of episodes have been shortened and honestly, for me, the list of things that I wanted to deliver was not fully realized. Because of that, I feel very sorry this had to happen. However, I am proud that we gave 160% and I would be happy if everyone could receive that 160% for the finale”.
