The alien Wulgaru’s last assault against humanity was foiled by the heroic actions of the genetically enhanced humans known as the Evolved Children in their advanced AHSMB battle armor, but now a new attack has been launched against Earth under an even deadlier champion, Diorna, created from the fusion of DNA from two Wulgaru Royals. Unfortunately, Izuru Hitachi, the leader of Team Rabbits who defeated the Wulgaru Royal Jiart, is still out of action and recovering, so the task of marshalling the Majestic Princes and stopping Diorna falls upon the unready shoulders of Toshikazu Asagi. Together with the remaining members of Team Rabbits and the recently created Team Fawn, it’s up to Asagi to hold the line against the most ruthless adversary yet in MAJESTIC PRINCE: GENETIC AWAKENING!

In 2011, mangaka Ayamine Rando and illustrator Niijima Hikaru would create “Majestic Prince”, a sci-fi mecha action manga serialized in “Weekly Hero” magazine.

The anime series was broadcast in Japan in 2013 and when the series was rebroadcast in 2016, a 25th episode was added, followed by a animated film that year.

And now the 25th episode and the animated film was released on Blu-ray courtesy of Sentai Filmworks.

The series is set in the year 2110, humanity has expanded to space looking for new resources.  Advances in genetic engineering has led to the establishment of the Military Junior Pre-Academy (MJP) and the creation of genetically enhanced humans known as the evolved children.  This is in order to have humanity continue, so they can evolve and adapt in a new world.

Unfortunately, humanity immediately finds themselves under the threat of an alien race called the Wulgaru and the evolved children would become soldiers to pilot mecha to fight for humanity.  A group known as The Rabbits, not exactly the smartest of the evolved children but are great fighters are willing to take on the Wulgaru.

As the TV series focuses on the battle between The Rabbits, the final battle featured Izuru taking on Jiart, the prince of Wulgaru for a bout to the death.

With the rebroadcast and added episode 25, the 25th episode is pretty much a pre-cursor to the animated film “Majestic Prince: Genetic Awakening” as we are introduced to Team Fawn, four students from Guarantseere Academy, who hopes to join Team Rabbits in the GDF.

With the animated film, the film is set not long after the final battle between Izuru and Jiart, but now a new threat from Wulgaru has come.  A Wulgaru champion named Diorna, created from the fusion of DNA from two Wulgaru Royals.

With Izuru incapacitated due to his extreme injuries, his brother, Asagi must now lead the Team Rabbits and prepare for the battle with Diorna.

Can he lead and can Team Rabbits defeat their biggest adversary yet without Izuru?

For the most part, “Majestic Prince: Genetic Awakening” is more or less a story that gives closure for fans of the anime series.

As the original anime series ended without any true closure, the 25th episode didn’t provide any closure as it introduced a new team.  So, the animated film, pretty much serves up closure for this storyline but also leaves things open for something possibly in the future.

Unlike other animated films which makes a film easy for those without knowledge of a series to jump aboard and enjoy, this animated film is best for fans who stuck with the the series from beginning, watched the 25th episode and then watched the animated film.

There are simply too many characters and thus best to know who they are and the connection between Team Rabbit and Team Fawn.  And also the character dynamics and how certain characters feel towards other characters.  That plays a big part in this animated film.

As for the film itself, it’s like more or less like episodes 26-28, three episodes combined to be an animated film, granted better anime production values, a solid and immersive soundtrack and the series does look great in HD!

So, who do I recommend this for?  I recommend “Majestic Prince: Genetic Awakening” to those who stuck with the entire anime series and those who never got to watch episode 25 and get a true ending with the animated film. But if you have never watched the series before, I highly recommend watching the series first.
