Chiba Lotte Marines pitching phenom Sasaki Roki strikes out 19 in perfect record-setting game

He’s only 20-years-old, but Chiba Lotte Marines pitcher Sasaki Roki struck out 19 batters in a perfect record-setting game. The first perfect game in Nippon Professional Baseball’s history since 1994 (the last player to do so was Makihara Hiromi of the Yomiuri Giants) and the 16th pitcher to accomplish this feat.

During his game against last year’s Pacific League champions, the Orix Buffaloes, right-hand pitcher Sasaki struck out 19.  13 of those were consecutive batters.

Comments on SNS were as follows:

His accomplishment is like a pitcher in a manga

Not only a new record for professional baseball but also a perfect game

The “Monster of Reiwa” is real!

The record is too great! I’m at a loss for words.

It’s been 28-years since Makihara Hiromi accomplished it!
