Kagawa Teruyuki will no longer be featured on Toyota CM, losing advertisement sponsors and more

Actor Kagawa Teruyuki has been facing a lot of heat when it was revealed on publications that in 2019, he was sexually abusive towards hostess at a Ginza host club. The victim suffered from PTSD after the incident.

It has been further revealed in reports that Kagawa touched the breasts and tried to kiss a waitress in a club at Ginza in July 2019. The victim file a lawsuit against the club’s owner on May 20th for failing to stop Kagawa’s abuse.

Kagawa who moderates TBS “THE TIME” (M-F at 5:20 a.m.) appeared and apologized on live television but often the case for major talent who has had problems that reflects badly on society, there comes a punishment.

Advertisements featuring Kagawa have been removed from the shelves.  Alinamin Pharmaceutical has announced that his contract has expired and other companies are expected to file suit.

Kagawa announced that he will be stepping down as the moderator of “THE TIME”, while Kagawa’s NHK program, “Kagawa Teruyuki’s Konchu Amazing!” (Teruyuki Kagawa’s Insects are Amazing) had finished broadcasting and there are no plans for rebroadcast.

Toyota announced on September 1st that they will cancel the broadcast of a TV commercial featuring Kagawa.  The contract with Kagawa will last until the end of the year, but the policy is not to renew it.

Kagawa was appointed as “Editor-in-Chief” of the company’s media, “Toyota Time” back in January 2019.

A Toyota official said, “I’ve heard that he has apologized and settled out of court, but what he did was true, and the reaction from the public is completely unacceptable”.

Regarding the treatment of the articles posted on the company’s website, a related person said, “We want to make a decision as soon as possible”. The company is also considering a successor to the editor-in-chief of Toyota Times.
