"Puyo Puyo" champ Akajikou has passed away

Akajikou is a popular gamer known for competing in the popular Sega puzzle game “Puyo Puyo”. In fact, in January and December 2022, she had won the “Puyo Puyo Ladies Cup”.

It was revealed that Akajikou competed while battling cancer.

But her husband posted sad news on her official Twitter account that Akajikou died of cancer at the age of 28.

According to her husband, Akajikou was diagnosed with cancer about two-and-a-half years ago and continued her battle with the disease, but in the end she survived while being watched over by her husband and her family.

Akajikou had final words to her supporters. “Although there were some parts that were naturally careless, I was always cheered up by making people around me smile with my innate charm. I am proud of the way I was energetically active.”

“Puyo Puyo” produc er Hosoyamada Mizu wrote on Twitter, “She was one of the players who I thought would become a professional player in the near future, such as winning two consecutive women’s tournaments and winning the Puyo Puyo Cup to the point where she could become a professional player. She was a person full of Puyo Puyo love, such as asking her to appear on the official program at short notice, and she was happy to respond even if it was difficult”.
