“BOYS BE…” mangaka Tamakoshi Hiroyuki announced that his cancer has returned

On the 30th, manga artist Tamakoshi Hiroyuki (53), who is currently serializing the comic version of the masterpiece “Mobile Suit Gundam: War in the Pocket” based on the original work by Yatate Hajime and Tomino Yoshiyuki, announced on his SNS that cancer had metastasized to his liver. Due to this diagnosis, the series was announced to be suspended.

Tamakoshi was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer in 2021 and resumed his serialization after undergoing chemotherapy.

“Let’s go to a part-time job” at Kodansha’s 45th Newcomer Manga Award. He received an honorable mention in “BOYS BE…” and debuted with “BOYS BE…”.

Currently, she is serializing “Mobile Suit Gundam: War in the Pocket” in the manga magazine “Gundam Ace” (KADOKAWA), and “AV Actress with One Year to Live” in the web comic label “MobaMAN” distributed by Shogakukan.

Tamakoshi was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer in 2021. Surgery was performed in August of the same year, and he said, “I am aiming for remission in five years”, but in June 2022, cancer cells were rediscovered during a rectal endoscopy, and the cancer was stage 2 or below.

Later, it was discovered that the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes and blood vessels, and he was diagnosed as stage 3. He had resumed his serialization after four months of chemotherapy. On this day, he announced, “As a result of the test, the cancer had metastasized to several places in my liver”, and announced that he would be taking a break from serializing the series for a while to concentrate on treatment.

He appealed to the fans, “I will do my best to return as soon as possible, so please wait for a while”, and added, “Please continue to support Gundam: The War in the Pocket” and “The AV actress who has only one year left to live”.

The third volume of the ongoing series “War in the Pocket” was just released on the 25th of this month.
