74th NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen artist announcement – 44 groups to perform, 13 for the very first time

A press conference to announce the performers for NHK’s “74th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen” (7/20) held on New Year’s Eve was held on the 13th at NHK Hall in Shibuya, Tokyo, and it was announced that there would be 44 performers in total. There were 13 groups participating for the first time.

Artists belonging to SMILE-UP. (formerly Johnny’s Office), who often appeared in previous years, will not appear, but more K-POP artists will participate than in previous years. Compared to previous years, there were more unique artists than in previous years, including “singers” who have become increasingly popular in recent years, such as “Ado” and “Stopuri,” who do not reveal their faces.

According to NHK, “This year’s Kohaku theme is “Borderless – New Year’s Eve that transcends and connects. In a time when people are worried about things like the situation in Ukraine and a series of natural disasters, music has the power to connect people and share emotions without borders, transcending countries, languages, and generations. I’m sure the songs we’ll deliver on this year’s Kohaku will encourage you, bring peace to your distant family members, and bring smiles to your friends overseas who you haven’t met yet”.

The show will be hosted by comedian Ariyoshi Hiroyuki, actresses Hashimoto Kanna and Hamabe Minami, and the station’s announcer Takase Kozo.
