Maeda Atsuko to star in a one-shot drama adaptation of popular manga artist Okada Mari’s biography

 

Okada Mari is one of the top screenwriters in the anime industry.

Having written “Rozen Maiden”, “Basilisk”, “Fate/Stay Night”, “Red Garden”, “Vampire Knight”, “Black Butler”, “AKB0048”, “anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day”, “Mobile Suite Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans” and many more the series.

But many people were unaware of the journey it took for her to work in the anime industry and the challenges she faced in her personal life.

In 2017, Okada wrote her autobiography titled “Gakkō e Ikenakatta Watashi ga [anohana] [Kokosake] wo Kaku Made” (“How I Went from Not Going to School to Writing anohana and The Anthem of the Heart”).

In her book, Okada talked about being bullied, how she missed school many times as she rather sleep, play video games or read books. But each time she did go back to school, how her teachers tried to encourage her to do something with her life.  Also, how her father had an affair, her now single mother had a different boyfriend, how she got involved in the anime industry and became a screenwriter and more.

And now Okada’s autobiography will be made into a one-shot drama in which former AKB48 member, Maeda Atsuko will play the role of Okada Mari.

The drama will air on September 1st on NHK BS Premium from 10:00 p.m. to 11:29 p.m.
