Our Favorite Photos from Photographer Angelo Delos Reyes for #CelebrateAngeloDay

On July 15, 2014, J!-ENT photographer Angelo Delos Reyes passed away.  On July 15th, friends of Angelo Delos Reyes celebrate his life by showcasing his work.

Delos Reyes was instrumental in the founding of Neo-Tokyo 2099 BBS in 1993 as part of the original team.

But his career in entertainment goes as far back in the ’80s, as Angelo Delos Reyes was one of the talented photographers covering the entertainment scene especially concerts in the Philippines.  He was known for his play on lighting.

Angelo moved to America to pursue a career in technology but would get back into covering entertainment event for J!-ENT in the 2000s.

Here are a few of our favorites:

Former Morning Musume member Tanaka Reina with her band LoVendoЯ (ラベンダー) performing in San Francisco.

Known for his use of tweaking lights manually (not by software) while taking photos at a concert, Delos Reyes was able to take these type of photos at concerts.  Featured are Red Bacteria Vacuum, Vomica and Jake Stone Garage.

Angelo would be among the photographers for Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s performance at Union Square in San Francisco.  As well as covering the press conference of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Harajuku Kawaii fashion designer, Sebastian Masuda.

His photos of Jake Stone Garage were so impressive that his photo was used for the cover of the J!-ENT 2014 Annual.

Back in 2009, Angelo Delos Reyes said about the cover for the J!-ENT interview with Wakeshima Kanon, “Prior to taking this photo, a few days before, something happened to my DSLR.  Taking photos and saving it to the memory card became sporadic and I thought I had fixed it.  But once in awhile, the problem would kick in and making discolorations on the actual photo.  I was surprised they managed to use one of those photos with the discoloration and make it work for the cover”.

Back in 2013, Angelo Delos Reyes discussed his most memorable experience for J!-ENT, and it was musician, SUGIZO and the band Red Bacteria Vacuum.

Delos Reyes said in the J!-ENT 2013 annual, “For me, it was meeting SUZIGO and Red Bacteria Vacuum. In 2008, after shooting photos of SUGIZO in concert, he asked if he can look and have the photos I took and next thing you know, I’m riding in a car with SUGIZO and other band members to a restaurant and eating with SUZIGO as he was going through the photos I took”.

Angelo said about Red Bacteria Vacuum, “I met Red Bacteria Vacuum back in 2004 and they were awesome band that I enjoyed meeting!  They were cool and let me take backstage photos and each time they came to San Francisco, I wanted to shoot photos of them and watch them perform live.”

Angelo’s last live performance that he covered for J!-ENT was surprisingly of Jungles! from Red Bacteria Vacuum in 2014, this time by video.
